On
the 24 June 2005 the top European track work companies converged to Vilamoura,
for one more General Meeting of EFRTC. This meeting was of significant
importance for the association and was hosted by the contractor Somafel
S.A. Coordinator of the Portuguese Association.
EFRTC Chairman, Mr Jeremy Candfield, saw its mandate extended for two more years,
entrusted at heading the preparation of the Federation’s “Strategy
for Change”. Results should be presented at the next General Meeting, in
December 2005. The challenge is a professionalized association with strength
of activities.
As planned, the first session was dedicated to the study groups. The work on
the harmonization of procurement procedures is now ready to be presented to the
Infrastructure Managers and the Procurement Directors. The participation in drafting
European Standards applicable to EFRTC activity has seen progress and greater
involvement of our members. The standard for the qualification of trackworks
contractors should be soon ready for a final enquiry. The elaboration of a standard
for safety protection on track site works has started and EFRTC is now promoting
the elaboration of a new standard for qualification of drivers of track construction
and maintenance machines.
